Dale Gallon

The Artist that Brings You the History!

Dale Gallon - Historical and Nautical Artist

Dale Gallon lives and works in Gettysburg, the site of the pivotal battle of the Civil War.  A native of Southern California, Dale Gallon began his interest in art and military history at a young age.  He graduated from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles where he was given a scholarship from Hallmark Cards.  While in California, he provided illustration for Boeing, Mattel, and taught art at the University of California Long Beach.  His love of the Battle of Gettysburg drew him, his wife Anne, and their three sons to move to Gettysburg in 1984.  It is said that great things can be accomplished if a person contains a passion for its cause.  Dale has that passion and his artistic ability allows him to share it with others.

After moving to Gettysburg, Dale remarked,

“I happen to live within a mile or two of where Gen. Robert E. Lee led the Army of Northern Virginia into the pivotal battle of the war. The battlefield is my office. I don’t need much more inspiration. I suspect people who collect my paintings feel that on the canvas.“

Each of Dale’s paintings is a history lesson on canvas. Today, his paintings are known for combining art and an accurate depiction of history.

Since 1980 when Dale released his first limited edition Civil War print he has been telling historically accurate Civil War stories on canvas.  In 1980, the Civil War genre of art that is so widely recognized today was in its infancy.  Dale blazed a path for other artists to follow, setting high standards along the way.

For 30 years his gallery in Gettysburg at 9 Steinwehr Avenue was a meeting place in for history enthusiasts and his work is still on display & sold at this location.  Currently his complete works can be viewed & ordered online at www.gallon.com.   He is known for his attention to detail and historical accuracy to assist the collector in understanding the history, important people and landmarks are identified on the upper and lower borders of each limited edition paper print.  To assist Dale in the complex research, he works closely with historians who are responsible for researching every detail and writing a comprehensive historical essay which accompanies the limited edition paper prints and limited edition canvas gales.  Dale’s art stands in a class of its own – for the collector who seeks historical accuracy.

Dale has painted over 300 historical paintings since 1980 His works are highly sought after worldwide.
