Minnesota Forward

Gettysburg, Sundown July 2, 1863 – Along the upper reaches of Plum Run west of Cemetery Ridge, Major General Winfield Scott Hancock orders the 1st Minnesota to advance in a desperate attempt to hold the Union line.

I would like to share the comments of President Calvin Coolidge at the ceremony commemorating the placement of a statue of Col. William Colvill in the cemetery at Cannon Falls, MN.

“In all the history of warfare this charge had few, if any equals and no superiors…so far as human judgement can determine.  Col. Colvill and those eight companies of the 1st Minnesota are entitled to rank among the saviors of their country.” – President Calvin Coolidge
